So my second training climb and this time, I am on holiday in the beautiful Dubrovnik, Croatia!
Mount Srđ is the rugged limestone hill that rises directly behind the walled city of Dubrovnik, reaching about 412 metres (1,352 feet) above sea level. It forms a dramatic backdrop to the city and is one of Dubrovnik’s most famous viewpoints. From the summit, visitors get sweeping panoramas of the terracotta roofs of the Old Town, the Adriatic Sea, Lokrum Island, and the Dalmatian coastline.
The mountain is both scenic and historic. At the top stands Fort Imperial, a fortress built by the French during the Napoleonic Wars in 1810. During the Croatian War of Independence in the 1990s, Mount Srđ became a strategic defensive position during the Siege of Dubrovnik. Today the fort houses the Museum of the Croatian War of Independence.
